Side Step and Waterfall

Hello Bloggers

Sorry for the delay in posting but am back. I am going to show you hot to do a side step card using the Spellbinders grand Nestabilities labels one dies. The stamps that I will be using are The Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz Mini Holidays set. This was one of the two cards I showed my stamping group the other week and they all liked the results.

So above you can see a picture of the finished card. You can see its got that aged distressed look which I so love to replicate in my projects and once you get the hang of it so easy to do.

Here's what you going to need to do the Project.
Basic tool kit.
Stampers Anonymous Tim Holts Mini Holiday's 4 stamp set.
Spellbinders Nestabilities labels one
Spellbinders Grand Labels one
Distress inks : Antique Linen, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain
ink blending tool and 3 pieces of craft felt cut to approx. the size of your tool.
8"x8" cream card blank
Cream Card
Gold Card
Archival Ink pad: Sepia
Length of Ribbon
Versafine Vintage Sepia ink pad.

With the labels one die cut three shapes from the cream card. Here I used the third from the middle. Keep the die out as you are going to use it again in a mo.

With your gold card face down draw around the OUTSIDE edge of the labels one die that you used for the above step, do this three times.

Here you can see I have drawn three. Cut them out using a good pair of craft scissors. Let me explain why I have done this. If I used the next die up it will give me a much bigger border and therefore to big for what I need. This way I can get away with using the die by drawing around it and gaining a few extra layers from my dies. And the border is a lot narrower.

While you have the machine out using the grand labels one die set  using the 8"x8" cream card cut out the label. I used the largest die.

You want to make sure the crease of the card is away from the cutting area as in the photo here. As you can see I have layered it up in reverse so I can see what I am doing. So Base plate first, large labels one die cutting edge up, 8"x8" card stock, White plate c on top. Pop through the machine.

So once you have cut it this is what you should end up with .......and in one piece. This will be the foundation of our stepper card so for now put it to one side.

I have now married up my cream shapes with my gold layers to make sure I have cut enough. Place the gold shapes to one side as now we are going to stamp on our images.

I have now got my stamps ready and my acrylic block and Archival ink pad. I have used the Poinsettia, Bauble and A Joyful Christmas. Stamp on to the  little Die Shapes

Once you have stamped on the images , get your Versafine ink pad in Sepia and stamp all around the images with the crackle stamp.

Here you can see I have gone all the way around using the crackle stamp. I made sure to keep clear of the middle so really only the edges.

All three stamped images have been given the crackle treatment and now it ready to apply the distress inks to age it.

Applying Distress ink I have found it much easier and smoother using a ink blending mat. Lay the mat down on your work service and using a blending tool add piece of felt dab over the ink pad. Starting of the card and on the blending mat going in a circular motion gradually bring the tool on to the card. Keep repeating this process until you have the required depth of colour.

Repeat the process with the two other colours, but with the walnut stain keep to the very edge.. Once finished you should have three card looking like this. Lay to one side.

From the A4 piece of cream card cut a strip approx. 6cm wide as shown in the picture to the left..

Fold the piece of card in half.

From that first crease mark with a pencil 3cm down from it and then 6cm . Repeat the other side.

Using a scoring tool score across the card so that you will end up with 3 score lines.

Lay one of your cards on the 6cm fold mark and lightly draw around the shape.

Lay a piece of card approx. 11cm by 3cm along the bottom of your pencil mark and slightly above . Use the photo as a guide. Use DSST to attach to the base. Remove excess as in the photo.  Next stamp in Archival sepia using the crackle stamp. Again use the photo as a guide you don't need to do the whole lot as we are going to cover it so it wont be seen.

Turn the whole thing over. The half without the "T"  Bar stamp in sepia and crackle stamp as before. Use the distress inks to age it as before.

Sorry its Blurry lol

So here once you happy with the distressing I added my little cards. Apply strip of DSST just under the fold line of each crease. Fold the mechanism in half and make sure the longer bit is on the bottom BEHIND the "T" bar. For ease I usually start from the bottom i.e. at the 6cm score line and work up.
So this is what you should end up with.
Leave to one side..

Finally punch a hole and attach a piece of ribbon. Ignore the brads I will get to them later.

Now the stepper aspect of the card. Get your labels one shape from earlier and lay it flat as in the photo. Draw a pencil mark from the centre from one end to the other. Use the photo as a guide. DO NOT SCORE THIS MARK.
Now to make and divide the sections up. Starting with the right hand side score from the middle line to the outside this is an easy one as the pointy bit is the middle.
On the left hand side using the centre fold, mark 2" then 4" then 5.25" again use the photo as a guide. Score all the marks as you can see in the photo EXCEPT THE ONE IN THE PREVIOUS STEP.
Rub out the pencil marks.

Now turn the card so you have the short side at the top and bottom.  The score marks now should be on your right. Taking your craft knife cut along the middle from the top score mark line to the bottom 1.25" score mark.

Starting from the bottom of the card as in the photo,  Mountain fold, then valley fold, mountain fold then valley then finally mountain fold. Ease everything together and give it a good going over with a bone folder

Using the picture as a guide stamp some images on the card. Remember when you do the back to make sure they are the right way up.

.And as before go around the edge using the crackle stamp.
Now its coming together and all nicely crackled.

As before start with Antique Linen and go around the edge of the card. Repeat with the Vintage photo and then finally on the edges Walnut Stain.

Applying the last colour and its all looking quite distressed, including the author lol.

Lay the waterfall mechanism on the top of your card on the left hand side and mark the edge of the card on the "T" bar.
Trim it down accordingly.
The bit that is left you can attach a strip of red DSST and attach it to the front of your card.

This might get a bit fiddly. Turn the whole card over and the bit of the "T" bar that is protruding from the other side you can now trim following the shape of the actual card. The bit odf card that is left can now be stuck down with Red DSST.

The finished card. You can now add the brads to your "t" bar if you wish.

Hope you Enjoy. Happy Crafting
